It’s sudden, how everything’s drowned out —the conversations around him, the shuffling of footsteps on the concrete floor, the mother with her child a metre away— as if someone had turned down the volume in his head. His legs shake as he continues to stare, eyes wide. No. It’s odd, for someone to look so alive when they’re meant to be dead. There’s a ghost of a smile on the other’s lips and a howling sound in his ears. “Come here,” Jongin mouths, so Lu Han goes.

Kyungsoo is six when he meets Chanyeol for the first time, at the beach. They’re both kids with messy hair, curious eyes and dirty feet full of sand in between their toes. Unlike Kyungsoo, the other boy is taller (much, much, much taller), and his curly-but-not-too-curly hair is in an unfamiliar blonde color, with shades of orange. It’s strange. Kyungsoo thinks Chanyeol’s from somewhere else, not really understanding the things you can actually do with hair yet, although his mother is a hairdresser.
